Giving at Westland

Westland School relies on your support to sustain its high level of progressive education, facilities, and outstanding faculty; at Westland fundraising supports all aspects of our program. Tuition does not cover the cost of educating each child and the difference is made up with fundraising. All donations, large and small, provide a necessary component to our operating budget. As a non-profit, all donations are also tax deductible. Fundraising is the means by which we facilitate our many goals: vibrant class rooms that exemplify the best in progressive education, a child-centered campus designed to meet and satisfy the needs of our students, and an economically diverse community of families. With your help we are able to provide this unique program that makes Westland distinguished among progressive elementary schools.

We are grateful for your participation.

What is it?

Westland asks all community members to contribute to our annual fundraising efforts. Each year we aim for 100% participation of both families and staff in our Annual Giving Campaign. Full participation demonstrates our community’s commitment to the financial health of our school. Additionally, we reach out to Alumni, parents of Alumni, and our Extended Family Community for much appreciated charitable support. Our Annual Giving Campaign yields positive financial gains as well as a dedicated community of supporters – for this we are appreciative.

What is it?

Both a celebration of our community and one of our more important fundraising events, the Winter Fundraiser is an event where everyone can find a way to participate and have a significant impact. Hire a babysitter, put on your party clothes, and get ready to spend. Just for the grown-ups, this night usually includes silent and live auctions, games of chance, specialty drinks, catered dinner, and dancing.

What can you do?

Buy a ticket and attend. Donate something to the auction such as tickets to concerts/shows/sports events, an item solicited from a local business, a specially prepared feast, a handcrafted good, or even that vacation house sitting empty. You can also help by underwriting a portion of the event.

What is it?

The “Westland Way” at its collaborative finest! These events are hosted throughout the year by community members. Westland collects a fee for attendance, community members throw a party: instant “fun”raising. Past parties have included a Chefs of Westland Dinner Party, Football Sunday Brunch, Gingerbread House Decorating Party, Dinner & Shopping at Dari, and a Scotch Tasting Party.

What can you do?

Throw a party. Co-host a party. Attend a party. Parties can be big or small. Extravagant or simple. For kids, adults, or families. Parties raise money for the school and they bring us together as a community.

What is it?

The Fair is our largest celebration for both children and adults. Every member of the community pitches in to make the fair a success through family built and run games, bake sales, inspired food service, and themed entertainment. Major fundraising dollars are earned from the fair and its raffle.

What can you do?

Encourage friends from outside Westland to attend the fair. Attend the fair yourself, buy lots of food and play fun games!

What is it?

We utilize an online site that manages auctions and grants “dream requests” of unique experiences and items not easily available to those outside certain industries (mostly film, television, and music).

What can you do?

Donate tickets to concerts and shows, set visits, signed scripts/posters/cast photos, memorabilia from a film or TV show including items worn by a beloved character, swag, backstage tours, meet and greets, internships, and VIP opportunities. You’ll be amazed at how much these items raise online!

What is it?

Our boutique is a highly anticipated shopping bonanza. Everything from specialty foods, jewelry, gift items, clothing and art is on sale. Come shop to your heart’s content and check everyone’s name off your holiday gift-buying list. You’ll support local artisans and shopkeepers who in turn, donate 20% of their gross receipts to Westland.

What is it?

Your assets can support the future needs of Westland with planned giving. From endowments and bequests, gifts of personal property and securities, or portions of retirement plans and life insurance policies allocated in a will or living trust. There are many options for giving that will have a profound and lasting impact on teaching, education, and financial aid at Westland. You may choose a particular area of interest to support or allow your gift to fund key priorities determined by the school’s Board of Trustees.

What can you do?

If one of these strategies seems right for you, we invite you to contact our Director of Finance & Development, Carole Barber, to learn more at (310) 472-5544. Every gift, regardless of its size, is appreciated and sends a strong message that you are committed to our students and their education.

If you shop at Ralph’s, Westland can earn anywhere from 1% to 4% of your purchases. This works for any credit or debit card you use. Remember, you need to re-register each year.  If you’ve signed up in the past, it may be time to re-activate so we can keep their donations coming.
